What Are the Differences Between On-Grid and Off-Grid Solar?

How do on-grid systems work?

On-grid systems operate connected to the electricity grid and feed the portion of the energy produced that is not consumed instantly into the grid; when needed, any shortfall is supplied from the grid. Since they do not require batteries, the initial investment cost is lower, and they are ideal for homes, apartments and commercial rooftops with access to the city grid.

How do off-grid systems work?

Off-grid systems operate completely independently of the grid; the energy produced is stored in batteries and used at night or during cloudy hours. They are the only way to achieve energy independence in projects such as garden houses, agricultural land and boats that the grid does not reach.

Which one is suitable for which project type?

On-grid systems are generally preferred for homes, apartments and commercial buildings with a grid connection, because they are both more cost-effective and allow surplus production to be fed into the grid. Off-grid systems come into play in garden house, agricultural irrigation and marine projects that have no grid access or where outages are critical.

In some special projects, hybrid systems can also be designed by our engineering team for users who want both grid assurance and independence during an outage.
